WHAT IS Headlight Restoration?

Do your headlights have a foggy-hazy look to them? Maybe you’ve noticed your visibility at night or during the rainy times is much lower (thank you Fairfax weather). No worries, you don’t have to replace them, nor do you have to open up your lens (as many people think the haziness is from the inside of the lens. Most of the time it’s not).

Headlight restoration is the process of clearing up the headlights of your vehicle by removing fog, yellowing, or cracking. Over time, exposure to the elements and frequent driving accelerates the wear and tear on your headlights. Dull or cloudy headlights not only affect the appearance of your car but can also reduce visibility and safety while driving at night.

We use sanding and polishing techniques to eliminate imperfections and restore your headlights to a crystal-clear finish. Replacing headlights can cost upwards of $1,000 per headlight, making restoration a far more affordable option. By investing in headlight restoration you can extend the life of your headlights and maintain your vehicle’s value. Here is our step-by-step process for making headlights look clear and new again.

IS HEADLIGHT RESTORATION RIGHT FOR YOU?

Headlight restoration is an excellent solution for improving visibility and the overall appearance of your vehicle, but it’s not always necessary for everyone. It’s designed to remove fogginess, yellowing, and imperfections from your headlights, enhancing clarity and safety for nighttime driving.

For instance, if your vehicle is primarily parked in a garage and rarely exposed to the elements, you may not need headlight restoration as frequently. However, if your car is often driven in harsh weather or exposed to UV rays, headlight restoration becomes essential to maintain clarity and avoid long-term damage.

The Ultimate Headlight Restoration Process

The first round of sanding is where the oxidization is removed. You'll see a lot of slurry come off.

As we move up the process, we remove less oxidization. The focus now is to refine the sanding marks.

You can start to see a noticeable difference in the clarity of the headlights

This is the final sanding step. The headlight is looking much clearer

Using a cutting disc, compound, and machine polisher, we'll remove the sanding marks.

Finally, we'll refine the cutting step to bring out maximum clarity with a light polish and polishing pad

Can You Restore Any Headlights?

Like many things, once the headlights get to a certain point, there is only so much we can do to restore them to a like-new condition. Your headlights can look better after we’re done, but there can also be permanent damage.

Why Do My Lenses Get Ugly?

Your headlights, just like your paint, have a clear coat on them. As the suns beats on it week after week, the clear coat starts to deteriorate. Eventually what was the clear coat turns into an ugly yellow layer gunk.

Considering the heat that Houston produces, your headlights are exposed to maximum heat- and if you park your car directly in the sun for most of the day, that’s only going to add to the damage. Because of the material of the headlights, the clear coat on them don’t last nearly as much as the clear coat on the paint.

How Do I Keep My Headlights Looking Good?

It can be a bit tricky. Typical waxes and sealants will only protect your car for so long. If you park your car in the shade most of the time, then they’ll simply last longer than if you park outside in the sun most of the time.

You can apply a sealant or wax to your headlights every 3 to 5 weeks. This can take less than 15 minutes to do.
